Alana Chang
Having grown up in Richmond, Alana Chang is certainly familiar with the music life of Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Her early development in violin started at the Richmond Community Music School which encouraged her participation in local youth ensembles such as the Delta Youth Orchestra and the Vancouver Academy Orchestra. During her involvement with the Delta Youth Orchestra, Alana became one of the first students to be awarded the Wallace Leung Memorial Scholarship in 2002. In her last year with the orchestra she was given the Harry Gomez Award of the Delta Symphony Society in 2003.
Since completing her high school education, Alana has gone on to study at the University of British Columbia acquiring her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance in May 2007. Since studying performance, Alana’s passion has developed in ensemble and orchestral playing. It has long been her personal goal to someday hold a professional position in a symphony orchestra. Alana has performed with many orchestral training programs throughout her musical education such as the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific and also the National Youth Orchestra.
Currently, Alana performs with the Vancouver Island Symphony in Nanaimo as well as other major orchestras in Vancouver such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Alana’s development in chamber music has been marked by success with the achievement of winning the Friends of Chamber Music Competition in 2004, and she continues to perform with various small ensembles around the Lower Mainland. Alana also enjoys teaching violin and hopes to impact the next generation of musicians.
